Maxine Ficksman

Maxine Ficksman HeadshotMaxine Ficksman, MA, MA, BCET, FAET earned her BS in secondary education/social sciences, from Boston University, MA from Adelphi University in secondary education, and a second MA in reading with distinction plus a special education credential from CSUN. In 1969, she joined Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), working with underachieving readers and continued working in the field of education as a reading specialist, learning specialist, and consultant. For the past 20 years, Maxine has worked in private practice as a board certified educational therapist. Additionally, Maxine has been employed as a graduate part-time instructor for three educational therapy post master’s training programs. For her work in community service, coordinating and providing educational therapy services for students involved in the Juvenile Justice Connection Project, Maxine was recognized by the city and county of Los Angeles. During her AET presidency (1994-1996), Maxine spearheaded the formation of several training programs in California and subsequently developed and coordinated the UCLAX graduate level educational therapy certificate program.  In 1998, Maxine co-wrote with Ann Kaganoff, “The AET Graphic Model of Educational Therapy”, published in the The Educational Therapist. The model was the first published visual paradigm for the field of educational therapy. In 2007, as Chair of Graduate Education for AET, Maxine developed and coordinated the AET Educational Therapy Institute (ETI). Maxine currently serves as a consultant to the CSUN educational therapy master’s and post master’s certificate programs.
